What We Do
Since 1989, Global Health Volunteers, a not-for-profit organization, has recruited, trained and sent teams of health care professionals to provincial villages and distressed urban areas in Latin America and the Caribbean to provide professional healthcare and health education to people with little or no access to these resources. In addition to sending volunteer teams, we provide assistance in various forms to assist our in-country partners throughout the year. Our office staff and at-home volunteers, perform a variety of tasks that are focused on helping our in-country partners and assisting our volunteer teams.
Founded as Global Outreach, Global Health Volunteers has served close to 100,000 people through the dedicated work of our in-country partners and thousands of volunteers. Global Health Volunteers come from many fields, including the medical field. Our volunteers are chosen on the basis of their skills and availability, without deference to race, religion, or ethnicity.
Our immediate goal is to assist our in-country partners in achieving their goal of developing healthier communities. Our long-term goal is to help them move toward self-sustainability. Our volunteers tell us the service they provide helps them as much as it helps the communities they serve. For many, it is a life-changing experience.
