Gros Morne

**WE ARE SUSPENDING OUR MISSIONS TO HAITI UNTIL THE CURRENT POLITICAL AND CIVIL UNREST IMPROVES

Each fall, since 2009, a medical team of 10 to 15 Global Health Volunteers travels to the Artibonite Region in Northwest Haiti for a 10-day mission to serve with our in-country partner, Hospital Alma Mater of Gros Morne. Over the course of those 10 days the team provides care and education to an average of 700 children and adults.

The team flies to Port-au-Prince and travels 5-6 hours to Gros Morne, a town located approximately 100 miles north of the capital. There, they set up clinics to provide primary care as well as health education. Each day the team rides in the back of a pick-up truck packed with all the medications and supplies needed for the day. They ride for an hour or more over rough unpaved roads to rural communities with little or no access to medical care.

In addition to our teams serving Gros Morne, we continue to have a strong relationship with Hospital St. Francis de Sales in Port au Prince, which suffered devastating damage in the January, 2010 earthquake. The reconstructed hospital opened in 2016. The new Hospital St. Francis de Sales is a beautiful, modern facility and a testimony to the perseverance and resilience of the Haitian people. The Catholic Health Association (CHA) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) provide significant funding and other resources to assist in the rebuilding effort.

"It is a pleasure to be a part of a team that provides compassionate care to the underserved."
